CEK SALMONFEST – My Capture
Mike Grill, a scientific aide for the California Department of Fish and Game, releases an adult fall-run Chinook salmon into the San Joaquin River as a large crowd of people watch from the bank during SalmonFest at Lost Lake Park near Friant Saturday, November 9, 2013. Three fish were transported to Friant after being trapped downstream near Newman, so that they can spawn near their historic spawning habitat. The CDF has been transporting fish past obstacles in the river regularly over the last few weeks and will continue to do so into December. This is the second year for the trap and haul program. Saturday’s event was held to celebrate the San Joaquin River restoration project and the return of salmon to spawning grounds near Millerton Dam. This was the first year for SalmonFest which included a fishing clinic, casting competition, river education and the release of adult fall-run salmon on the San Joaquin River.
