The Money Store, Sayler/Morris, 2016, archival pigment print, 56 x 60 inches. Former headquarters of The Money Store, a company that specialized in subprime home equity loans. Built in the shape of a ziggurat, the temple form of ancient Mesopotamia. The building was empty for a time after the Money Store collapsed and now occupied by a branch of the California government. Just south of the confluence of the American and Sacramento rivers, across from the first terminus of the transcontinental railroad constructed in 1863.
